Impact Reporting Network FAQs

Everything you need to know about sharing your impact report through the Network.

The Impact Reporting Network connects your impact report to the donors and funders who are looking for organizations like yours. How you access the report builder depends on your platform — but the answers below apply to all users unless noted otherwise.

About the Network

How will sharing our reports publicly benefit our organization?

By sharing a report publicly, you increase the visibility of your organization’s impact. Donors may discover your work when searching for organizations to support, and you may be able to reuse your public report to respond to future reporting requests.

Public reports are intended to serve as a “universal” impact report that reflects your program’s outcomes, regardless of who funded it.

Who will see my public reports?

It may be visible to donors and funders who use platforms that participate in the Impact Reporting Network. This currently includes:

YourCause from Blackbaud, a leading corporate philanthropy and employee engagement platform used by companies and foundations to identify, support, and learn from nonprofit partners. Any report made public will automatically be shared in the coming months.

Charity Navigator is the largest evaluator of U.S. nonprofits. Organizations that are Encompass-eligible and designate their report as public may have their report contribute to their Charity Navigator rating.

Public reports help funders and donors find, discover, and understand your work. Additional trusted platforms may join the Network over time.

Can partner platforms change how my report is displayed or interpreted?

Partner platforms control how publicly shared reports are displayed within their own platform environments, including summaries or evaluations. True Impact does not control partner presentation or scoring methodologies.

If new platforms join the Impact Reporting Network, will they see my reports?

Participating platforms immediately gain access to all reports marked public by participating nonprofits. Restricted reports are not shared with partner platforms.

Completing Your Report in True Impact

The following applies to reports requested by donors within the True Impact platform and not partner accounts.

Visibility & Sharing

Is it my choice to participate in the Impact Reporting Network?

Yes. It is entirely your decision whether to make any report public. You can choose to share all reports, some reports, or none at all, and you can update your decision at any time.

If we choose not to share any reports, what does that mean for us?

If you keep reports restricted, they remain visible only to users that you’ve added to your True Impact account and to specific donors you choose to share them with.

You may also choose to share a report with a specific donor by allocating their donation to that report. Restricted reports are not discoverable by other donors or platforms through the Impact Reporting Network.

Please note that your report data will still contribute to social sector benchmarking in an aggregated and anonymous way, but your organization’s identifying information will not be public.

Can I change the visibility of my reports later?

Yes. You can update report visibility at any time in your True Impact account by going to your Report Dashboard and selecting Report Visibility for each report.

When does a change to report visibility take effect?

Changes take effect immediately within True Impact. Updates may take additional time to propagate to partner platforms, depending on their refresh schedules or Terms of Use for using previously shared data.

Can I choose to share some reports with the Reporting Network and not others?

Yes. Visibility is selected on a report-by-report basis. You can update visibility at any time from your Report Dashboard.

Can I share a portion of my report rather than the report in full?

No. Public reports are shared in full to ensure your impact data is viewed in the proper context.

Can I allow multiple team members to make decisions about sharing reports with the Impact Reporting Network?

Yes. Any authorized True Impact user in your organization’s account will then be able to select the visibility level for specific reports.

Can I create a new report specifically for public sharing?

At this time, only reports requested by a True Impact-subscribing donor can be made public in the True Impact platform.

Why might we choose not to share a report publicly?

Restricted reports are often appropriate when a report is highly tailored to a single funder’s requirements, includes funder-specific framing, or contains sensitive context that would not be meaningful for a broader audience.

Reports that describe overall program outcomes and impact are generally well suited for public sharing.

If I update a public report, will those changes be reflected on partner platforms?

Yes, however changes to the report and visibility apply to future distribution and do not affect data already accessed by third parties. Timing and visibility of updates may experience a delay subject to partner refresh schedules. If you have additional questions about your data on the network partner sites, please contact the partner organization.

Donor Reporting & Data Privacy

Can the donor who requested my report see the report even if I restrict its visibility?

Yes. In True Impact, the process of allocating a donor’s investment to one or more reports allows that donor to view it, regardless of whether the report is public or restricted.

Does my donor know which reports I’ve made public?

Donors are not notified when you change report visibility. They may encounter your public report through a participating platform. A donor will always be able to see a report if their investment has been allocated to it.

Do I need permission from a donor to share a report publicly?

No. The decision to share a report publicly belongs to your organization.

What information is included when a report is shared publicly?

Public reports include your program description, beneficiaries, outcomes, measurement approach, location, and total costs.

Donor-specific funding details and custom donor questions are not shared publicly.

I had originally marked a report public, but changed it to restricted later on, what happens with my report and data?

When you change a report from public to restricted, it will no longer be accessible by partners in the Impact Reporting Network.

Note, however, that data that was previously shared while the report was public may have been downloaded or printed by users. Also, if you opted into a separate partner-driven process based on your public True Impact report (e.g., Charity Navigator’s rating regime), that report and its data may remain accessible according to the separate terms of use that you agreed to.

If you believe a report was shared in error or contains sensitive information that should be removed, you may request a review through our formal appeal process by contacting datasharing@trueimpact.com. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and any partner takedown efforts are made on a best‑effort basis.
