Impact Reporting Network Donor FAQs

As a Donor, you may have questions about the Impact Reporting Network. Below you'll find frequently asked questions and their answers.

Will our nonprofits’ reports be shared publicly by default?

No. Nothing is shared automatically. Nonprofits always choose whether to make a report public. Sharing is optional, nonprofit-led, and handled on a report-by-report basis.

Can we prevent our nonprofits from sharing reports?

The decision to share a report belongs to the nonprofit. That said, if you have concerns about how sharing may affect your program, a specific report, or a particular nonprofit relationship, we’re happy to talk through those concerns and discuss how this update works in practice.

What data will be available through the Impact Reporting Network?

Only reports that a nonprofit chooses to make public are shared through the Network. Public reports are available in full and may also contribute to broader sector benchmarking to improve understanding of impact across cause areas.

No donor-specific funding details, allocations, or custom questions are shared publicly.

Will donor-specific or sensitive information be visible?

No. Donation amounts, funding tiers, allocation details, and donor-specific report sections are not shared publicly. These safeguards remain in place regardless of whether a nonprofit makes a report public.

How does reporting through True Impact differ from reports shared through the Network?

Reports completed as part of your True Impact program include additional support and safeguards not found in public or self-service reporting. This includes hands-on nonprofit support, alignment to your priorities and metrics, and expert review to ensure internal consistency and data quality.

Public or self-service reports do not receive this same level of review.

If reports are publicly available, why would we continue to request reporting through True Impact?

Your subscription with True Impact includes more than access to reports. It includes tailored nonprofit support, expert review and feedback, guidance from a dedicated Social Impact Manager, and customized analytics that allow you to confidently use impact data for internal decision-making, communications, and external reporting.

Will this benefit us as a funder? How?

Yes. The Impact Reporting Network expands your ability to learn from credible impact data across a broader set of organizations. Over time, this can support stronger comparisons, faster learning, and more informed funding decisions—while maintaining the rigor and support you expect for your own portfolio.

Will this create additional work for our nonprofit partners?

No. The goal of this update is the opposite. By allowing the same reporting work to serve multiple purposes, the Network helps reduce duplicate reporting requests over time.

How will this affect our nonprofit relationships?

This update is designed to reinforce that impact measurement is a tool for learning and growth, not just compliance. Allowing nonprofits to reuse reporting work can reduce friction and support healthier, more trust-based relationships.

Does this change what we’re paying for?

No. Pricing is not changing in the short term. Clients pay for support, review, alignment, and assurance—not just access to impact data. Any questions about pricing or future models can be discussed with your Social Impact Manager.

How should we explain this update to our nonprofits?

You can frame this as an opportunity for nonprofits to get more value from reporting they’ve already done. Sharing is optional and fully within their control. We are also reaching out directly to nonprofits with clear guidance and support.

Who should we contact with additional questions?

Your Social Impact Manager remains your primary point of contact and is always happy to discuss this update. If helpful, we can also involve members of our leadership team in those conversations.
